Philosophy

We view children as strong, independent and capable individuals. We consider children to be fully engaged, curious and critical thinkers. We see children as unique and special, each with their own pattern and timing of development.

As facilitators, we expect children to have different ability levels, learning styles and intelligences. We accept this and use it to design learning opportunities at school. We see children as sophisticated communicators, who have the right to be heard.

We believe children are active and knowledgeable individuals, who see the world in their own way. We respect their contributions and value what they have to offer.

We feel that they have a responsibility for their environment, each other and the larger community. One way to open your eyes to unnoticed beauty is to ask yourself, “What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew I would never see it again?” Rachel Donaldson

Community

We aim to create a community here at our school between the children, the staff, the parents and beyond. We see everybody as having a significant role to play in that community, where everybody feels valued and a sense of belonging and learning is enjoyable.
